What Is an Empanoli?

Chicago’s most original gluten-free hand pie — explained.

The Name

Empanada + Ravioli = Empanoli

If you have never heard of an Empanoli, you are not alone — because it does not exist anywhere else. Creator Alex Moncada coined the name to describe his invention: a hand pie with the outer shell and hearty texture of an empanada, folded and sealed like a ravioli, baked never fried, and completely gluten-free.

The signature butter crust took three years to perfect. It is rolled, filled, folded with a cutter, and sealed one piece at a time in small batches.
